Virgin has announced that it will be following rival Qantas by launching a pre-paid travel money card. Frequent flyers will now find the Global Wallet is part of their Virgin Velocity membership card.
Virgin has partnered with Visa to offer customers the chance to load multiple foreign currencies onto frequent flyer cards that can be used to withdraw cash from around 2 million ATMs around the globe as well as pay for goods and services at 30 million locations worldwide.
Neil Thompson, Velocity’s chief executive, said the latest offering was part of Virgin’s ambition to offer frequent flyers a multi-faceted program. The new service is due to be rolled out over the next few months.
Thompson added that the new cards will make it easier and more rewarding for customers to spend overseas, as well as in Australia, and also provide benefits such as priority services, access to airport lounges and seamless check-in.
Vipin Kalra, Visa country manager, said the Global Wallet would allow Australians a better way of managing their money while travelling overseas as well as an easier way to purchase everyday goods. Thompson said that more details about the Global Wallet programme would be released after it is launched.
